Aberdeen Ladies playing catch up on matches went in to a busy week knowing that continued victory would see them secure their third consecutive North District Women’s Division one title. Saturday saw them playing a tough match Against Quasar, even tougher was the fact that home side went into the match with no genuine goal keeper. Thanks go to Lorna Evans for stepping up to the plate. A hard fought match saw a single goal from Sarah Allan give Ladies the three points. So a very busy week with Ladies playing three matches of importance. Two mid week league matches against the coaches other club Aberdeen University. And a cup semi final against ESM at Countesswells on Sunday. Monday night was a bit of a battle with the University side obviously up for it against their coaches’ team. Aberdeen Ldies took an early lead when some great play saw a laid back pass to Captain Janine Gammack who flicked nicely past the Uni keeper. Play was frantic and some good hockey went unrewarded. Concentrated pressure in the second half saw Vice Captain score a second clinching goal. So the repeat of the fixture on Wednesday night meant that a win and three points puts them out of reach of any of the other clubs. The match was very similar to Monday night’s battle with both teams again up for the clash. Aberdeen Ladies Champions elect took an even earlier lead after two minutes when Claire Edwards recieved a pass from Debbi Hanton and drove a fierce hit into the Uni circle and Susan Anderson playing a skilful deflection past the Uni keeper. Again both teams went at it hammer and tongs but no goals came. Some solid defending by Claire Edwards and Fiona Gray snuffed out any Uni attacks. The Ladies Midfield was working hard and when the Coach made some changes in the second half a goal came almost instantly. Katie Jackson who’s been impressing in the seconds took her chance to show her talents. Determined play from the little forward saw her beat two uni players before playing a hard cross pass to the back of the circle where Ladies latest recruit Katherine Andrew hit a fierce shot hard and low past the keep who could only clip the ball into her net. So the match finished 2-0 again and the champagne corks were popping for North hockey’s most consistent side. 16-0 for the season with two league matches left to play the girls can be proud of their efforts this year!! |
